In 1972, a mysterious laboratory was discovered in the Scottish Cairngorms, empty of inhabitants but filled with incomprehensible technology. The device found within, called an Inducer, transforms thulium from an obscure rare-earth element into the most valuable substance in the world, though almost no one outside a handful of intelligence services and heads of state knows this yet. When paired with individuals born with specific psychological archetypes, dubbed Adepts, resonators grant seemingly magical abilities, healing the dying, moving objects with thought, reading minds. The three great powers have known since the mid-1970s. The public knows nothing.
